TUNNEL

City-Center's Kaivokatu tunnel is also a part of the tunnel leading to the Main Railway Station. It was completed in 1967 and was immediately recognized a service area where shops were open longer than elsewhere in Finland.

The Helsinki metro started to operate in June 1982. The metro station directly underneath the City-Center is the busiest station of the whole network.

CITY -CENTER'S OWN TUNNEL

The 1100 m2 tunnel street in City-Center was opened at the end of 2003. Its architecture and all new materials form an example of the new look in the Center.

A new escalator at the southern end of the tunnel leads towards Keskuskatu.

This new tunnel is the first part of the whole underground shopping area that is warm around the year.  There are 10 new shops ranging from20-140 sq.m

ALEKSI-HERMES- CORNERHOUSE

The real estae company Aleksi-Hermes, address Keskuskatu 4 - Aleksanterinkatu 19, was annexed to City-Center in December 2004. The house was constructed in 1897 and it was designed by the architects Grahn, Hedman ja Wasastjerna.

The size of this building is 8400 sq.m. Sponda is planning to continue City-Center's own tunnel all the way to the corner of Aleksanterinkatu and Keskuskatu.
